Educational institutions closed in Poonch district

Authorities on Tuesday closed down all the educational institutions within 5 km distance of the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, following the killing of civilians in Pakistan shelling on Monday.

Jammu:All educational institutions within 5 km distance of the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district were closed down by the district authorities on Tuesday, following the killing of civilians in Pakistani shelling on Monday.

In violation of the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan engaged in indiscriminate firing targeting defence and civilian facilities by Pakistan along the LoC leading to the killing of a six-year-old girl, a woman and a BSF personnel, leaving 13 others injured inShahpur, Kerni, Mankote, Mendhar and Krishna Ghati sectors of the district.

After a round of retaliatory firing by the Indian armed forces on Monday, relative calm prevails along the LoC.

Jammu, April 2 (IANS) Authorities on Tuesday closed all educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district where a child, a woman and a Border Security Force (BSF) officer were killed on Monday in Pakistan shelling.



All these institutions were within 5 km distance of the Line of Control (LoC).



Due to indiscriminate targeting of defence and civilian facilities by Pakistan along the LoC, a six-year-old girl, a woman and an inspector of the BSF were killed while 13 others were injured on Monday.



After heavy firing exchanges between the Indian and Pakistani armies the previous day, there was calm along the LoC on Tuesday.
