Jammu: Jammu has become the latest city to report its first case of 'Delta Plus Variant' of Covid-19 infection on Wednesday, officials said. According to the officials at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu, a sample was collected in the Katra area of Jammu and Kashmir and sent for genome sequencing to National Central for Disease Control (NCDC) which returned positive for the Delta Plus variant.
The Centre on Tuesday declared Delta plus as a variant of concern. VOC can affect more people with more seriousness. To date, among the 45,000 samples sequenced in India, this variant has been observed in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh with around 40 cases identified so far. In Maharashtra, 21 people have been suffering from Delta plus.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 444 fresh COVID-19 infections even as four people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday. As per the government data, 138 of fresh cases were reported from Jammu and 306 from Kashmir, taking the total infection count to 3,13,028.
