Kulgam: A Jammu and Kashmir police personnel was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Pombai area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday evening, officials said.
The policeman was identified as Constable Nissar Ahmad, a resident of Hakaroo village of Anantnag's Mutton area.
"At around 7 pm, unidentified militants opened fire at a police party posted at the Pombai area of the district. During the attack, constable Nissar was critically injured," a senior police official said, adding," he succumbed on the way to the hospital."

He further said, "The case has been registered and search operation has been launched to nab the attackers."
The attack comes a day before Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's scheduled visit to the district. Sinha is scheduled to visit the Kund area of the district on Sunday where he will lay foundation stone for a playground.
