Srinagar: A CID Inspector was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at the Nowgam area in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, officials said on Tuesday evening. The cop was identified as Parvez Ahmed Dar, an inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
"At around 8 PM, Unidentified militants opened fire at the CID Inspector Dar while he was returning home after offering prayers at Kanipora area of Nowgam. During the attack, he was critically injured," a senior police official said, adding that he succumbed on the way to the hospital. He further informed, "Parvez was posted at Parimpora police station. A case has been registered and search operation has been launched to nab the attackers."
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG CKR Amit Kumar and SSP Srinagar Sandeep Chowdhary reached the spot and inspected the scene of the crime. The police, in a statement, paid tributes to Dar who left behind his wife and two young children - a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. "The CCTV footage has shown two militants with pistols and we are trying to ascertain their identity. We are also questioning all the suspects," they added. The attack comes a day after three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed by police during a gunfight in north Kashmir's Sopore town.
