Srinagar: A civilian was shot dead by militants in the Habba Kadal locality of the city here on Wednesday evening, police said. He was identified as Umar Ahmed. He was a shopkeeper. "At around 8pm, unidentified gunmen fired upon a 25-year-old shopkeeper in city's Habba Kadal area," a police officer said.

However, Ahmed succumbed to his injuries. The hospital officials confirmed that Ahmed was brought dead on arrival. Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned the area off, and a hunt was launched to nab the attackers. This attack comes a day after a police officer was shot dead by suspected militants in Srinagar's Nowgam area.
