Woman abandons her newborn baby at hospital in HP

A woman abandoned her three-day-old baby at the District Women's Hospital in Himanchal Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Saturday. A search operation has been initiated by the local police upon receiving complaint from the hospital administration requesting them to find the mother.

Hamirpur : A woman allegedly abandoned her three-day-old baby at a hospital in Himanchal Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Saturday.

The woman identified as Mamta, reached the District Women's Hospital on August 21 along with her mother-in-law after developing labour pains.

Subsequently, she was treated by the doctors and later gave birth to a baby on the same day.

Medical Superintendent of Women's Hospital Dr PK Singh said, "The infant was admitted in SNCU (Sick Newborn Care Unit ) ward following critical condition while the woman was shifted to general ward. After improvement in the health condition of the baby, the woman fled without informing anyone."

The police launched a probe into the matter as soon as they were informed by the hospital administration.

Acting on the complaint, the police reached the registered address of the lady which was discovered to be fake.

Meanwhile, a search operation has been initiated by the police to nab the absconding mother.
