This Mahabharata-era temple in HP is home to a 600-year-old deity

The temple situated 12 km away from Solan,  houses a 'Chaturbhuj Vishnu' for which devotees cross seven gates to seek the blessings of the deity. It is said that the idol was concealed in a water body to protect it from the Mughals.

Solan: A historic temple, housing a 600-year-old idol and a five-pronged conch believed to be played by Lord Krishna himself during the times of Mahabharata, exists in the Solan amidst the picturesque hills of Himachal Pradesh.

The temple situated 12 km away from Solan, houses a 'Chaturbhuj Vishnu' for which devotees cross seven gates to seek the blessings of the deity.

The age-old Shivling and conch is the centre of faith for millions of people.

According to local folklore, it is believed that Mughal soldiers never invaded the princely-state Baghat after the consecration of an idol in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It is said that the idol was concealed in a water body to protect it from the Mughals.

Later on, King Jamwant of Baghat was ordered in his dream to consecrate idol in Jaunaji.

This rare ancient conch is even mentioned in the first chapter of Srimad Bhagwat Gita. The conch can emanate five sounds simultaneously.

The 'Panchmukhi Shivling' present in the temple is believed to be around 1200 years old.

The devotees travel miles to seek blessings from this age-old Vishnu temple right from the Mughal period.
