Nahan: The farmers in Himachal Pradesh are practising chemical-free farming methods in their fields by using cattle dung as manure. It is believed that input costs are minimal with no use of fertilisers and pesticides, resulting in high yielding and profits.
Farmers who cultivated ginger, garlic and wheat in Mahipur panchayat of Sirmaur district preferred to use the manure of cow and goat instead of chemical fertilizers. Farmers were delighted after there was an increase in the productivity of the crops which has further strengthen their income.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, farmer Sirmaur Singh said: "The work of planting garlic is on full swing. Animals manures are used in fields. Yields have increased due to natural farming methods."
"We practice natural farming methods and therefore yields have increased. No one uses chemical fertilizers now. There is also a good income," another farmer Veena Thakur said.
Farmer Vicky Thakur opted natural farming and today he is earning a good income from his farms.
The practising of natural farming methods has reduced the cost of farming and has ultimately lead to a substantial increase in the income of farmers. It is noteworthy that natural farming is becoming a boon for farmers.
