Nationwide lockdown: Transgender Jyoti distributes ration to 700 families in Himachal

Transgender community in our country face social stigma, yet they are coming forward to help the needy as a nationwide lockdown has been imposed in the country to contain the spread of novel coronavirus. Kinnar Jyoti Mahant from Punjab has distributed essentials to around 700 families in Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla: Amid the soaring cases of Coronavirus in the country, people belonging to different sections of the society are lending a helping hand to the underprivileged and the needy.

The nationwide lockdown imposed to flatten the curve of the infection has also become a challenge for the poor to sustain themselves in the absence of employment and wages.

In such a situation, Kinnar Jyoti Mahant has come forward to help the people of his locality by distributing ration to around 700 families.

Hailing from Hajipur in Punjab, Kinnar Jyoti Mahant travelled to Thakurdwara in Himachal Pradesh and distributed ration to people with the help of local police.

"These people are like my family, how can I leave them in this hour of need. I will help them with my entire team and provide them the essential goods required for their survival," she said.

Jyoti brought a tempo vehicle stocked with essential commodities including 700 flour bags, oil and pulses.

"We face a social stigma throughout our life, yet it is my duty to help these people in their tough times," Jyoti said.
