It is said that the Shivalinga changes colour frequently, sometimes seven times a day, and can also be witnessed on sunny days.

Kinner Kailash History

According to local folklore, the place was identified as a 'mystic land' by few shepherds, who took refuge at the rock formation whilst grazing their flock.

They had reportedly witnessed a form of 'divine' worship in the early hours at Mount Kailash, accompanied with sounds of drums and conch.

When they looked towards Kailash, they witnessed a grand body moving around and was greeted by shooting stars (from the sky). It was since then, the place had attained the present significance.

Close to Kinner Kailash is Parvati Kund. This natural pond, located 500 meters below Kinner Kailash, is said to sustain itself even during summers.

Locals believe that women are blessed with kids if they take a bath in this pond.

It is also believed that when Ravana visited Mansarovar, he also took a bath in the pond and later trekked to Kinner Kailash.

The mind-boggling views of Shivalinga, snow-clad cold mountains and spectacular landscape can be also seen from Kalpa in Kinnaur.
