New Delhi: The 19th battalion of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Sunday distributed essentials and ration items to stranded labourers and their family members near Spillo in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh amid the ongoing nation-wide lockdown. The effort was part of the ITBP's civic action programme.
According to the ITBP spokesperson, a group of approximately 50 people stranded in the area were facing acute shortage of rations due to the unprecedented and abrupt lockdown amid the fear of spread of COVID-19. Essential items carried in a jeep were distributed by the ITBP troops among the people suffering the shortage.
Due to the sudden lockdown, thousands of stranded migrant workers, poor and underprivileged people have been rendered homeless with no access to meals and necessities.
Many migrant workers had started moving to their native places on foot from different parts of the country due to the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus crisis. Presently, three coronavirus cases have been reported in Himachal Pradesh, while one person has been reported to have died from the affliction.
