Himachal's Gaurav Sharma elected as MP in New Zealand

Himachal Pradesh's Gaurav Sharma has been elected as an MP in New Zealand. He has won the Hamilton West seat on a Labor Party ticket.

Hamirpur: Thirty-three-year-old Dr Gaurav Sharma from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district has been elected as an MP in New Zealand on Saturday by winning the Hamilton West seat on a Labor Party ticket.

Dr Sharma won 15, 873 votes while his rival National Party leader got 11, 487 votes.

With this victory, Gaurav has become the pride of his family and the entire Himachal as a whole.

Following the announcement of his victory, people at his native village Lower Hareta have started celebrations.

Marking the occasion, his uncle Lalit Sharma and his aunt Vanita Sharma distributed sweets among the villagers.

Gaurav along with his family shifted to New Zealand many years back. before shifting to abroad, his father has provided his services at Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board.

"Winning elections in the foreign nation at such a young age is a matter of pride. Gaurav has made all of us proud," Lalit Sharma said.

Gaurav was studious right from the beginning. He completed his studies at various schools in Himachal Pradesh.

"Gaurav is a social person and always makes effort to help others," Vanita Sharma stated.

Panchayat head Sanjay Sharma said that Gaurav's victory as an MP at a foreign land has given a new identity to his panchayat across the globe.

Anil Verma, a native of the village said that Gaurav has brought fame to the names of his ancestors.
