Chamba: Asha Kumari, the Congress legislator from Dalhousie constituency in Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the member Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) from India Fourth Zone.
She was appointed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for a period of three years, and the association will be headed by Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Kumari said that she is grateful to the Lok Sabha speaker for appointing her as the member of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
"As a member of the association, I will try to raise the voice of women on the international stage as well. The association has two other members from both the houses of the Parliament and also four legislatures. Among them, I have got an opportunity from Himachal Pradesh which is a matter of pride for me," said the Congress MLA.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the first time that a woman MLA from Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as the member of the CPA.
The CPA has about 180 branches worldwide and divided into nine regions.
