Hamirpur: People in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur have extended their helping hand to the family of a labourer who attempted suicide in the wake of a livelihood crisis due to the curfew imposed amid coronavirus pandemic.
The local administration comes out for help after ETV Bharat highlighted the poor condition of the labourer.
After ETV Bharat's effort, the administration and the local people have extended their help, not only to this family but also to around 10,000 other labourers.
Satish (37), a resident of Uttar Pradesh attempted suicide due to the financial crisis in the face of lockdown. But after ETV Bharat shared his story to the administration, they offered him financial help.
The district administration has also prepared an action plan to provide ration to the workers who are trapped in Hamirpur.
Around 10,000 labourers from other states are stranded in Hamirpur district along with their families. The means of livelihood of these families are only daily wages, which are now closed in an emergency.
The relief package which includes rice, wheat flour, pulse oil, etc. will be delivered to the poor families at their homes. The district administration is also taking the help of Baba Balak Nath Trust for this task.
Through the trust, 300 packets have been made available to the district administration on Friday, which has been distributed to the needy. While the target is to distribute 3,000 packets every day.
The Red Cross Society and the temple trust will bear the cost of the package which is around 800 rupees/ package.
