Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): In a bid to contribute towards the fight against the novel coronavirus, a group of five engineers have developed an airtight sample collection chamber that eliminates the risk of coronavirus infection to the healthcare workers.
Hailing from Balghati in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, the team of five engineer friends is offering their services to the health department during the pandemic.
The team includes Vivek Mahajan, Achal Saini, Akshay Saini, Chandresh Saini, and Gaurav Saini. ITI holders Rohit Sharma and Umesh Saini also supported them in their noble initiative.
The COVID-19 sample collection chamber was prepared at a cost of 25 to 30 thousand rupees and according to them, the chamber is completely airtight and those who take samples through it will not get infected. The chamber will be donated to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College.
They informed that they prepared the chamber by using electronic equipment available to them in their house, however, they faced difficulties during the process as they did not get the required tools due to the lockdown. The chamber also has the facility of a microphone and a speaker.
These engineers had also made sanitation chambers earlier, but this project was promoted after the Indian government banned such chambers and tunnels.
However, the team did not give up and has now made a new chamber that is ready for use.
