As Himachal fights corona crisis, examples of humanity lead the way

Like in the rest of the country, in Himachal Pradesh too, many people have come forwards to help their fellow citizens in this hour of crisis, even if they are facing adversities themselves. While a tailor in Mandi has been stitching face masks for the needy, many individuals in Nahan have been feeding the hungry all through the lockdown.

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): With the COVID-19 pandemic taking a heavy toll on a major chunk of India's population, many unlikely heroes, apart from the fronline workers, have emerged, who are helping their fellow citizens in this hour of need.

In Himachal Pradesh too, many such examples have come to the fore - where normal people display heroic acts of humanity, even as they face adverse conditions themselves.

Maminur Hussain, who runs a tailor shop near Khatri Sabha in Mandi city, is originally from Kolkata, but has been calling Himachal Pradesh his home for the past 22 years.

Though his shop had to shut down due to the lockdown, that did not stop him from helping his fellow countrymen. Together with his wife and daughter, Hussain has been making masks at home to distribute to the needy.

The family, which has been making hundreds of masks daily, said that they have been enjoying it, and urged others to come out in support of the needy.

The lockdown, which was enforced to arrest the spread of COVID-19, has unfortunately resulted in many losing their livelihoods. As a result, arranging even for their daily meals has become a herculean task for many. But like Hussain, many citizens the state have stepped forward by feeding the hungry.

While Nahan resident Sanjay Pudir has been arranging two meals a day for migrant labourers for the past one-and-a-half months, Dalip Singh, also from Nahan, has been running a bread bank, which has come to the rescue of many hungry souls.

Similarly, yet another resident of Nahan, Bobby Ahmed has made it a point to provide either cooked meals or dry ration to the ones in need. Though Ahmed has himself been fasting during Ramzan, that has not deterred him from feeding others.

However, the lockdown has not been troubling human alone. With many street animals starving, many individuals and institutes have come forward to help the poor beings. One such example can be seen in Mandi, where the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has been making food and fodder arrangements for destitute animals.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh reported six fresh cases of COVID-19 yesterday, taking the count to 59 in the state.

While 35 patients have recovered from the infection in the state, three have died. Four people were shifted to other states for treatment.
