Alka and Neeraj Sharma, became parents to a differently-abled child. When the treatments proved no good, Alka started to have suicidal thoughts. But she gave up the idea thinking that she was at least able to take care of her son as she belonged to a resourceful family, but how would financially weaker families be taking care of the health-issues of their differently-abled children. This thought drove Alka to open an ashram for differently-abled children.

Sharma started operating the ashram on the upper storey of her house. Her husband supported the idea and funded the project. Today, all the necessities are looked after for the treatment of children.

Now the number of children in the ashram has increased to 63. The demand and number of children in the ashram has increased upto a point where the place has fallen short. She has now requested the government for help, so that she can provide health facilities to the differently-abled children.

It is said that children are God's gift. Parents who cannot afford to get treatment for their children due to financial constraints, Alka is no less than a divine avatar for them. She has been showering her care and love upon the suffering ones in her own capacity.
