Shimla: In a bid to boost tourism and provide better services to enthusiastic travellers, the railways on Thursday began operating three chartered coaches on the UNESCO World Heritage Shimla-Kalka narrow gauge line.
The decision to run the chartered coaches was taken after many passengers complained of the long waiting list for the toy train during the summer holiday season.
As per the decision, RA 100 Rail Motor Car, Jharokha, and RMC will be operated from June 13 to September 10.
The RA 100 Rail Motor car and the Jharokha are 8-seater coaches, while the Rail Motor Car (RMC) can accommodate 12-14 passengers. The RA100 is a self-propelled coach, while the Jharokha can be attached to the existing toy train.
However, the RA 100 and Jharokha coaches will operate only if a minimum of six passengers book seats by providing their identity cards. At the same time, a minimum of eight passengers is required for the RMC to operate.
The entire cost of the ticket will be refunded if the minimum requirement of passengers is not met.
