Noted historian urges govt to get back historical documents from Pakistan

These rare documents will help historians to bring forth a lot of information related to India's Independence, says Professor Chaman Lal, adding, that till now these documents have never been made public by Pakistan but for the last few years it has been providing some documents for the scholars.

Chandigarh: On 15th August 1947, when India was separated from Pakistan, several important things were left behind in the newly formed nation. Some documents related to special events about the history of the Indian subcontinent were also left behind in Pakistan. Now there is a strong demand to bring back these documents from Pakistan.

Professor Chaman Lal, a resident of Chandigarh, who is also an advisor to the Bhagat Singh Archive and Research Center in Delhi, has informed that the British had filed two major cases against Bhagat Singh. One was the bomb blast in Delhi Central Assembly Case in which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. The second was of Lahore Conspiracy, where he was accused in the Sanders Murder Case.

Professor Lal said that these papers are with Pakistan and it's very important to bring these documents back to India. He has also written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in this regard, a copy of which has also been sent to the Central government.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Professor Lal said that there are many files related to these two cases registered against Bhagat Singh in Pakistan. In addition, there are several other documents related to the Independence of India, which are in Pakistan. These documents should be brought to India as these are very important.

These documents, according to Professor Lal, will help historians to bring forth a lot of information related to India's Independence. The professor went on to add that till now these documents have never been made public by Pakistan, but for the last few years the country is providing some documents for the scholars. New information is now emerging from these documents.

Professor Lal added that Professor Satvinder Singh Juss, an Indian living in London, had also written a book. To gather the necessary information for this book, he had to travel all the way to Pakistan. Apart from this, he has also written several books on Bhagat Singh, where he provided new information.

Professor Lal added that Bhagat Singh is a hero in Pakistan as much as in India, people love him there too. Therefore, at any cost Pakistan will not hand over the documents related to Bhagat Singh to India, but at least a copy of those documents can be brought to India. India's Independence is going to complete 75 years soon, but to date no government has tried to bring these documents back to India.
