Panipat (Haryana): The lockdown in view of coronavirus in the entire country is having a worse impact on every business sector. The textile industry in Haryana is also facing heavy losses.
Haryana exports readymade garments worth 1.3 billion US dollars. Panipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Sonipat in Haryana have emerged as Asia's largest textile centres. Around 10 lakh workers are employed in these textile industries of Haryana.
In 2019, Haryana’s textile industry exported garments worth 607.52 million US dollars. The industry also generated a humungous turnover of 388.21 million US dollars in the months of April-September itself.
Textile Export House Association of Panipat head Lalit Kumar said: "The annual turnover of domestic and outbound textile goods in Panipat is valued about Rs 36,000 crore, whereas the annual turnover of exported goods is about 10-12,000 crore rupees."
Panipat exports its textiles to around 30-40 countries in the world, including countries across Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan, which generates annual revenue of about 10,000 crore rupees for the government.
During the lockdown, orders worth Rs 2000 crore has been cancelled and due to the inoperative import and export, the finished goods orders of Rs 2500 crore is lying in the warehouses.
Most of the labourers have returned to their villages due to the closure of work.
Textile exporter from Panipat Vibhu Paliwal said: "Orders worth Rs 2500 crores have been cancelled till now and the condition of orders of Rs 2500-3000 crores is also disastrous."
Lalit Kumar said: "It may take about 6-9 months to rebuild the business. The government should help us with this."
Lalit Kumar urged that during the lockdown the salary of the workers should be paid through the ESI department's fund.
"The ESI department has a reserve of 90,000 crore rupees with itself, "Lalit added.
In 2019, the export of textiles worth 607.52 million US dollars was carried out from Haryana. In which a large part of the textile was from Panipat.
The textile industry is suffering major losses and the government has also incurred a huge revenue deficit.
