Karnal (Haryana): In Haryana's Karnal, a farmer Narendra Chauhan became a role model for others by cultivating apples using lesser amount of water.
Narendra added a new dimension to farming by cultivating apple in the plains and make more profit.
He told that Palampur University of Himachal prepared a sampling plant which can bear fruits even in higher temperatures.
After collecting the information from the University, he planted the samples in his orchards. Elated over his success, Narendra added that he had turned Haryana into Himachal.
He said that the time has come for farmers to change traditional farming as the government buys only wheat and cumin from them, which is not as profitable.
He added that farmers will be benefited from the cultivation of apple. Besides, cultivation of apple requires lesser amount of water, which will benefit the farmers further as several areas in the state have come under the dark zone.
Due to climate change, there is also a change in the socio-economic and environmental conditions such as decrease in ground water level.
The best option for farmers nowadays is horticulture.
