CCTV footage of the incident

Faridabad: A fast-track court in Haryana awarded life imprisonment to two youths who were convicted in the Nikita Tomar murder case. The convicted individuals, Tausif and Rehaan, had shot Nikita Tomar, a college student, outside her college in Ballabhgarh on October 26, 2020.

Additional Sessions judge Sartaj Baswana had found the two guilty in the case on March 24. The duo was convicted for offences including conspiracy, kidnapping and homicide. A third accused Mohammed Azruddin, who had allegedly supplied weapons to the other two has, however, been acquitted.

Nikita Tomar who was a final year commerce student was shot dead when she had come out after giving an examination at her college in Ballabhgarh.

Footage from the CCTV cameras outside the college showed Tauseef and Rehaan attempting to force her into her vehicle. The footage of the incident showed that she was shot at after resisting a possible abduction bid.

After the murder, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed on October 27 to probe the case. The SIT had filed a 700-page charge sheet, listing 60 witnesses, in the murder case.

Police said that the charge sheet was prepared on the basis of digital, forensic and material evidence.

The trial in the case was started on December 1 at the Faridabad fast track court.
