Hisar: An MLA from Haryana's Hisar Kamal Gupta was confined by the farmers in the city on Monday. According to sources, the farmers also tore the clothes of Kamal Gupta after a scuffle.
The incident took place while a meeting of farmers was underway at Hisar Rest House. Meanwhile, Kamal Gupta reached the rest house mistakenly. On seeing the BJP MLA, the farmers staged protests against him which led to man-handling.
After being confined for about 20 minutes, the police reached the rest house and set him free. Following the incident, the farmers also blocked the four national highways including toll plazas of Hisar for two hours demanding the MLA to apologize. The farmers alleged that the MLA had intentionally come to the farmers' meeting.
Farmer leader Ranbir Singh Malik said, "Gupta's arrival at the meeting spot was preplanned. His intention was to create a ruckus so that the farmers would be lathi-charged but unfortunately his plan failed." Farmers also said that if the MLA would not apologize for his act by Tuesday, then on Wednesday farmers will fence his house.
After the incident, MLA Kamal Gupta claimed to be innocent saying that he went there unknowingly. Gupta said, "I was not aware of the farmers' meeting and had reached the rest house by mistake. Farmers raised slogans and showed black flags at me. Some of them grabbed me and took me into a hall and a couple of them pulled me from behind and tore my clothes. Everyone has the right to keep their view but how far it is right to keep someone hostage? Their misbehaviour shows that this is not a farmer's movement but hooliganism."
