Panchkula (Haryana): A high court lawyer on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Haryana Police, demanding that an FIR be filed against Yoga guru Ramdev and his company Patanjali for advertising its medicine kit 'Coronil and Swasari' without obtaining approval.

Sukhwinder Singh Nara, a lawyer at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, wrote a letter to the Director General of Police, Haryana, requesting that an FIR be filed against Yoga guru Ramdev, his company Patanjali and its CEO Acharya Balkrishna.

Singh said that the company advertised its 'Coronil and Swasari' medicine, despite the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 clearly underlining that such advertisements cannot be made without the proper approval of concerned authorities.

The lawyer claimed that the duo and their company had clearly violated the Disaster Management Act and could be booked under relevant laws.

"There are several questions regarding the medicine. Was proper research and clinical trial done? If yes, was it published? Did the ICMR and AYUSH ministry give their approval?" said Singh.

The lawyer appealed to people to not take the medicine unless the government approves it.

Earlier yesterday, Ramdev's herbal medicine company Patanjali Ayurved claimed to have discovered a medicine that could cure coronavirus in just seven days - a claim that the Ayush Ministry scoffed at by seeking stopping of advertisements for the drug.

While Ramdev claimed that Ayurved-based 'Coronil and Swasari' medicine have shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on COVID-19 infected patients except those on a life support system, the Ayush Ministry sought from the company detailed report on composition, testing and other data of the drugs.
