Sonipat (Haryana): While Delhi Police has announced a reward of Rs 1 Lakh for information on absconding Olympic wrestler Sushil Kumar--the prime accused of Sagar Rana murder case, the family members have accused politicians of helping the former.
After the Delhi police's announcement, the family members of the deceased expressed satisfaction on investigations held by the national capital region cops.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, Sagar's father and his uncle said that some politicians are helping Sushil Kumar to slip the net of the police.
"There is no doubt about the functioning of Delhi Police. They have launched a manhunt to nab Kumar and they will be successful also. This is all about the politics and because of the help of politicians, Sushil Kumar is still at large," said Sagar's father Ashok Rana.
"We are sure that Sushil Kumar is getting the help of politicians and administrative officers due to which he is constantly escaping from the police. Our demand is that he should be arrested as soon as possible and the government should punish him ," said Sagar's uncle Anand Singh.
Around two weeks after a former junior national wrestling champion, Sagar Rana was murdered outside the parking lot of Chhatrasal stadium here, the Delhi Police has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information that leads to the arrest of wrestler Sushil Kumar.
Also, a reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for Ajay, who is also absconding in the same case, Delhi Police officials said.
Earlier, a Delhi court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium, including Kumar.
The Court also dismissed an anticipatory bail application filed by Kumar and noted that allegations against the wrestler are serious in nature.
The Court said that the investigation is still underway and some of the accused persons have not been arrested so far and the non-bailable warrants (NBWs) have already been issued against the accused Sushil Kumar.
A brawl among wrestlers was reported May 4 in which some wrestlers were injured and they had to be admitted to a hospital and one of them died during treatment.
However, wrestler Sushil on May 5 had denied the allegation saying that his wrestlers were not involved in the fight that took place inside Chhatrasal Stadium.
Sushil is seen as one of the most successful athletes in the country as he won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics, and four years earlier, he had taken home a bronze medal in Beijing Olympics.
