Karnal (Haryana): With campaigning for the crucial Haryana Assembly polls in its final stage, ETV Bharat on Friday caught up with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who expressed confidence that the BJP would storm back to power with a massive majority, and achieve its target of winning 75 seats.
'Opposition's job to spread misconceptions'
Responding to the criticism his government has been receiving from the Opposition parties, Khattar said, "It is the opposition's job to spread misconceptions, if they do not do that, how can they be called the Opposition? But we have nothing to do with them. It is the people of Haryana that are important, and their message is clear. They have decided that the BJP will come back to power with a very big majority."
Khattar added that all the Opposition's claims of his government not fulfilling its election promises were false. "We have done many additional things which were not even in our manifesto, like making Haryana kerosene-free, and running a huge campaign on 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. We have delivered on 96 per cent of our promises," he said.
'Corrected a 70-year-old blunder made by Congress'
Hitting back at the Congress which has been accusing BJP of raising the issue of Article 370 even in the state polls, Khattar said, "Yes we deliberately bring up these issues. There is a lot of thought behind this. Is the issue of Article 370 irrelevant? We have corrected a 70-year-old blunder which the Congress made," he said.
"We raised Article 370, but we also raised Haryana's issues, talked about farmers, women, youth, everything. We haven't left out anything," he added.
'Will end campaign in Karnal'
Stating that he would end his state-wide campaign in his own constituency Karnal tomorrow, Khattar praised the people of his constituency and said that it was due to their "determination" that he could campaign for his party in the entire state.
He urged people to come out in large numbers to vote on October 21. "It is our duty to exercise our franchise, and it is our right to choose who we vote for," he said.
'Never made any wrong statement'
Defending the comments he made against Sonia Gandhi which kicked up a storm, Khattar said, "I have never made any wrong statement. I used idioms, why do they have a problem with that? If they themselves can't use idioms, I can't go and teach them," he said.
