Gurugram: As many as five crows were found dead at Tau Devi Lal biodiversity park in Haryana's Gurugram on Friday morning. Meanwhile, samples of the deceased birds have been sent for tests to ascertain the cause of death.

"Five crows were found dead at the biodiversity park, but we are still examining the causes. We are also keeping a watch on the activities of birds," an official at the park said.

Officials said they were keeping a close watch on the behaviour of birds at the biodiversity park to look for symptoms of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1), commonly known as bird flu.

According to reports, around a lakh poultry birds have died mysteriously over the past few days in Haryana. Recently, 10 crows died mysteriously in Jind also.

In the wake of flu alerts in other states, the Haryana wildlife department has asked its officials to wear rubber gloves and other protective gear such as eyewear and face shields while handling dead birds.

Meanwhile, health experts said that bird flu is detected in sick birds and has the possibility to spread among humans only with those handling poultry or infected birds. Symptoms of flu are like the common flu, such as breathing problems, feeling of vomiting, fever, runny nose, pain in muscles, lower abdomen and headache, experts said.

People who work closely with poultry are at high risk of getting the infection. Otherwise, human to human transmission of the H5N1 virus is very rare, experts added.
