Sonipat (Haryana): Another elderly farmer protesting against the Centre’s new farm laws at the Delhi-Haryana border passed away on Friday morning allegedly due to the biting cold weather.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Hansa Singh (72) of Punjab's Moga district.
He was found dead at the Singhu border, one of the sites where thousands of farmers have been agitating for days now, demanding that the Narendra Modi government repeal the three laws in their entirety.
"On being informed about the death of the farmer at Singhu border today, family members of Singh rushed to the hospital and autopsy was conducted. According to the post-mortem report, the elderly farmer died due to heart attack. We have handed over the body to the family persons," a police officer said.
As many as 19 protesting farmers have reportedly died so far, either at the borders of Delhi or in road accidents en route.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other states have been protesting near Delhi’s borders for more than two months, demanding that the Centre’s farm laws be repealed and talks between the government and farmers have been failed several times.
