Two more deaths in suspected spurious liquor case in Haryana

Over 50 people have died in Haryana during the past few days after allegedly consuming suspected spurious liquor. The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deaths.

Sonipat: Two more people have died after allegedly consuming suspected spurious liquor here, sources said.

Over 50 people have died in Sonipat and Panipat during the past few days in the hooch tragedy in Haryana. Most of the deceased belonged to three residential colonies on the Gohana Road in Sonepat town, they said.

On Sunday, the state government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deaths due to consumption of suspected spurious liquor.

The SIT led by Additional Director General of Police (Narcotics) Shrikant Jadhav is to submit its report within 15 days.

The SIT will inquire into the reasons and sources of such spurious liquor. It will also look into all the complaints received in this regard and take measures to check the illegal sale of liquor in the state, they said.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of those who died after consuming adulterated liquor.
