Ahmedabad: In view of the rising number of cases of crime against women, Gujarat police set up 'She Teams' at all police stations in Ahmedabad. Two ‘She’ Teams' are allotted to every police station across the city. The units work round-the-clock and discharge a number of duties in their respective jurisdictions.
The 'She Teams' are specially dedicated to women and senior citizens. In addition, messages from the control room or the police station are also attended to by the team. Most of the messages attended by the officers of 'She Teams' are related to the complaints of women and senior citizens.
For the safety of women, the 'She Team' patrols parks, malls, multiplexes, schools, colleges, bus stations and vacant plots. Women and senior citizens are also chaperoned to their homes in some cases. The team also attends to women who need help or in case they face any problem.

She Team registers the details of all senior citizens in its respective jurisdiction and visits them periodically to know if they are facing any problems. She Team also visits school and colleges regularly where it holds awareness programs. While patrolling public parks the team can question people found involved in suspicious activities.
Members of the She Team in plain clothes also visit malls and parks and carry out patrolling outside schools and colleges. Patrolling is also done in public places during festivals. The team also explains to the public about various policing campaigns and women's helpline number.
Notably, the She Team had done commendable work during the COVID-19 lockdown. The She Team regularly visited senior citizens who lived alone and delivered essential goods to them. The She Team also distributed food packets and ration kits to deserving people.
The She Team has relieved the Ahmedabad police force of several duties. In the near future, the She Teams will take up more new projects.
