Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police detained the National General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Yudhvir Singh and eight others into police custody during a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Representing the 'Sanyukt Kisan Morcha', Singh reached Gujarat to attend a press conference in Ahmedabad.
Singh has been held for not taking permission to organise a press conference, police said.

Later, the National Spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union Rakesh Tikait condemned this action of Gujarat Police in a video.
"Gujarat needs to get independence because this state has not become independent till now. Now the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha will intensify its protest in Gujarat as well and the voice of the farmers will be elevated. If these leaders are not released from police custody soon, the Delhi Meerut Expressway will be blocked till their release," said Tikait in a video.

Since November 26 last year, farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital, against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
