Kunal Pitaliya and his wife Shruti Pitaliya have developed a pencil made from waste newspapers at the end of which there are seeds of flowers and vegetables that can be grown in one’s kitchen and front garden.

While the conventional pencil made of graphite and wood is harmful in many ways to nature, the pencil developed by Mr and Mrs Pitaliya by recycling waste newspapers is not only eco-friendly but encourages the users, particularly school-going children, to sow seeds of flowers and vegetables.

Known as ‘Keen Pencil’ the idea of making such an eco-friendly pencil made from used newspapers was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Go Green’ initiative.

At the end of the ‘Keen Pencil’ is a tiny wrapper containing seeds of Tulsi, Cumin, Fenugreek, Marigold and Tomato which can be planted in one’s kitchen garden after using the pencil. The seeds thus planted would soon germinate and grow into plants.

Though this eco-friendly pencil has not yet got much response from schools and colleges, many a corporate house has placed a bulk order for ‘Keen Pencils’.
