Meet Oxygen Man Hameed Khan who provides free oxygen cylinder to COVID patients

Hameed Khan, a samaritan in Gujarat's Ahmedabad has come to the rescue of critical Covid patients with respiratory issues who cannot afford or procure them.

Ahmedabad: As Covid-19 cases keep on increasing across the country, many common citizens are coming forward to do their bit to help the affected patients or families.

Many states, including Gujarat, are grappling with the shortage of oxygen that is becoming one of the reasons for the deaths of many Covid patients who don't get it at the right time.

Watching the pandemic ravaging the population in the country, Hameed Khan from Gujarat's Ahmedabad started supplying oxygen for free to people who are experiencing severe symptoms of the mutated coronavirus.

Khan is helping families of Covid-19 patients refill the oxygen cylinders free of cost and to everyone who comes at his door.

Khan's family was affected due to the lack of oxygen last month when his sister-in-law tested positive for Covid-19. The family could not find a bed or oxygen for her even after searching 7-8 hospitals. They finally arranged a set-up at home for her.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Khan said that his family suffered a lot for days when they could not find a hospital bed or oxygen for his sister-in-law.

"When I saw others suffering and patients dying due to the lack of oxygen, it was then that I decided we should help people," he said.

Khan's other family members also help him with the refilling of the oxygen cylinders for patients free of cost. The family sends two vehicles with large containers to an oxygen plant where they have to wait for hours to get it, after which the same oxygen is refilled into smaller cylinders for the needy. Almost 70-80 cylinders are filled here by the family members in a day.

Sudhir Gunjal, a man who had come here to refill an oxygen cylinder for a patient in his family said that he salutes Hameed Khan and his family for this noble gesture.

"My father had Covid and I could not get oxygen anywhere. Then I came here and got it easily, that too without paying anything. My father has recovered now. And now I am here for another patient who I know," he added.
