Massive fire breaks out in Gujarat hospital

Vadodara: At least 23 patients, including 17 COVID-19 patients, were evacuated to safety following a minor fire at a private hospital in Gujarat's Vadodara city on Wednesday night.

While initial reports stated that several patients and staff were trapped inside the premises, no casualty has been reported so far.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which engulfed a portion of Shree Vijay Vallabh Sarvajanik Hospital in the Mandvi area of Vadodara city, said Vadodara Collector Shalini Agarwal to ETV Bharat.

"All the 23 patients, including 17 COVID-19 patients, were rescued and shifted to other hospitals following the fire. No patient or any hospital staffer was injured," she added.

Earlier Mayor Keyur Rokadia said no one suffered injuries in the fire. "17 patients have been rescued from third and fourth floors of the hospital and shifted to the SSG hospital. None of them are COVID-19 patients. Nobody is injured," Rokadia had said.

As many as 10 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot and rescue operations are underway.
