Ahmedabad (Gujarat): With less than a week to go before US President Donald Trump's maiden visit to India, authorities in Gujarat have been extremely busy with preparations to ensure no lapses.

Since many roads would be closed on the day of US President Donald Trump's visit to Ahmedabad, the managements of several schools in the city have postponed examinations of students from February 24 to February 25.

The decision to defer the examination by a day was taken in view of the unavailability of school transport vehicles on several routes that would be closed for traffic due to the road show of Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While the schools will remain closed for a day, all the contract workers engaged for various tasks at the Ahmedabad airport will also be sent on leave till February 28. All members of the airport staff, who faced police complaints in the past, have also been asked to go on leave. The background security check of all the airport staff is being conducted by the police as a precautionary measure.

All vehicles plying in the vicinity of the airport were also being checked by the police for the entire week preceding the arrival of President Trump.

Talatis (village revenue officials), who have been assigned to work as guides for the general public coming to attend Trump’s public meeting at the newly built Sardar Patel stadium, are undergoing training for one hour every day. They are being trained to chaperone people coming from different parts of the state to their earmarked areas in the stadium.

Further, people coming from across the state for the programme will be provided with snacks three times and butter milk free of cost.

Village and taluka level government officials, deputed for ensuring order among the visiting people, are being trained by senior officers every day at the stadium venue so that there is no last minute hassle during the programme on February 24.

All the people being brought to Ahmedabad from different parts of the state have been told to carry at least one identity card with them and not to carry any eatables or drinking water bottles or container.

Meanwhile, state's chief secretary Anil Mukim convened a meeting of top civil and police officers to discuss and finalise security and logistic issues that need to be taken care of during the roadshow from the airport to the Gandhi Ashram and the stadium.
