Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Monday rejected Congress leader Hardik Patel's anticipatory bail plea in the 2015 Patidar reservation agitation case.

Justice V M Pancholi rejected Patel's bail on grounds of criminal antecedents.

In 2015, Hardik Patek had initiated and led a huge protest against the Gujarat government with the demand for reservation in government jobs and education to his community.

On August 25, 2015, the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti(of which Hardik Patel was a part), held a mega rally in Ahmedabad, where thousands of people gathered at the GMDC ground.

Police later alleged that the rally was unlawful as it was held without permission.

Also, Hardik Patel was accused of being responsible for the gathering and the violence that followed afterwards.

Several youths were killed in the violent episode across the state, with even larger number of public and private properties being damaged.
