Surat: A Surat court handed down a novel punishment to the accused in a case of alleged black marketing of Remdesivir injection. While the court rejected the bail of three of the five accused, it gave conditional bail to the remaining two. One of the conditions of the bail is that the two doctors must work as Covid warriors for 15 days in the Covid ward of the civil hospital.
There is shortage of doctors during corona pandemic: Court
The crime branch of Surat police had arrested five, including two doctors, for their alleged involvement in the black marketing of Remdesivir injection. The other accused were identified as Jainish Kakadia, Bhadresh Nakrani and Jaimish Jikadara. It was revealed during police investigation that Jainish, with his accomplices, was selling Remdesivir injection in the black market. The police had seized three vials of the injection from Jainish. He admitted to having purchased these from Bhadresh Nakrani for Rs 39,000. The money was transferred through a mobile application. Further investigation led to the arrest of five persons.
In its order, the court said in these trying times there is a shortage of doctors and so if the two doctors are released on bail they can provide treatment to Covid patients.

CMO of Civil hospital to supervise
Doctors Sahil Ghoghari and Hitesh Dabhi, released on bail, will have to perform duty in the Civil hospital’s Covid ward for 15 days beginning April 30 till May 14. For this, the court directed the CMO of the civil hospital to assign and supervise their duty. He will decide what type of work to assign them, in which ward they shall be deputed. Besides, the CMO will have to keep a record of the duty these doctors performed and submit his report to the court. The CMO will be required to state if the doctors had performed their duty to his full satisfaction.
