Gandhinagar (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a daylong visit to Gujarat on Friday attended the 29th Biennial Conference of All India Primary Teachers' Federation where he said that Google can give data and information but the role of teachers is to be the mentors of students.
"Earlier, students used to get "kitabi gyan" (bookish knowledge) but the New Education Policy (NEP) will change that," PM Modi said. Stressing on the need to give students primary education in their mother tongue, the PM said that NEP has made provisions for the same. He also said that he has never been a teacher in his life but has been a lifelong student, who has studied social situations minutely.
The theme of Akhil Bhartriya Shiksha Sangh Adhiveshan, which is the 29th Biennial Conference of All India Primary Teachers' Federation is, 'Teachers are at the heart of transforming education'. During his Gujarat sortie, PM Modi inaugurated and lay foundation stones of projects worth around Rs 4,400 crore at another event at Mahatma Mandir and visited the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) to review the status of various ongoing works.
He also inaugurated and laied the foundation stones of developmental projects worth over Rs 2,450 crore during another event in Gandhinagar. These include projects of the Urban Development Department, Water Supply Department, Road and Transport Department and Mines and Minerals Department.

Modi also inaugurated and lay the foundation stone of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) rural and urban projects and participated in the “Griha Pravesh” of around 19,000 houses built under the scheme. He handed over keys to the beneficiaries of the scheme during the programme. This scheme has transformed the housing sector and has also benefitted the poor and middle class.
