A father and son duo died in Shrey hospital fire incident in Ahmedabad.

They were admitted 10 days after being tested positive for coronavirus.  

The family members of Navneet Shah and his son Narendra Shah paid Rs 11 lakhs for the treatment.

Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia said: "Ahmedabad Nagar Nigam signed an agreement with this hospital. The SOP was that there should be a fire safety certificate and electrical insurance certificate. Inspite of the that this incident took place which means the government should take responsibility for the incident."

Odisha CM condoles deaths in Ahmedabad hospital fire

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the loss of lives in a fire incident at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the fire accident in a Covid Hospital in #Ahmedabad. Wish the bereaved families have courage to overcome the irreparable loss and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Patnaik tweeted.

The blaze broke out around 3.30 am on the fourth floor of the private hospital in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, leaving eight COVID-19 patients dead.

They were being treated at the ICU ward of the COVID-19 designated Shrey Hospital.

Amit Shah condoles deaths in Ahmedabad hospital fire

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in a "tragic" fire accident in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

"Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire accident at a hospital in Ahmedabad," Shah said.

"My condolences and thoughts are with the affected families in this hour of grief. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured," he said in a Twitter message.

CM Vijay Rupani orders probe in Shrey hospital fire incident

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered a probe into the fire incident at Shrey hospital.

In a statement, the CMO said the probe will be conducted by two IAS officers, Additional Chief Secretary in Home Department Sangeeta Singh and ACS in Urban Development Department Mukesh Puri.

They have been asked to submit a report in three days, the statement said.

PM Modi announces ex-gratia for families of those killed in Shrey hospital fire 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief at the loss of lives in a fire incident at a hospital in Ahmedabad early Thursday and said the administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Modi tweeted: "Saddened by the tragic hospital fire in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to CM @vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor @ibijalpatelJi regarding the situation. Administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected."

Modi spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and city mayor Bijal Patel regarding the situation.

An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the hospital fire in Ahmedabad, the PMO said in a tweet.

The Prime Minister's Office also said Rs 50,000 each would be given to those injured in the fire.

Fire breaks out at COVID-19 hospital in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A blaze in the wee hours at a private hospital here has left eight COVID-19 patients dead, a fire brigade official said on Thursday.

The victims include five men and three women, who were being treated at the ICU ward of the COVID-19 designated Shrey Hospital in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad, the official said.

Fire broke out around 3.30 am on the fourth floor of the four-storey hospital, he said.

Around 40 other COVID-19 patients at the facility were rescued and shifted to a civic hospital in the city, he said.

"Eight coronavirus patients admitted in the ICU ward of Shrey Hospital have died due to the fire, which has been doused," said an official of the Ahmedabad Fire Department.

Primary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, police said.

"Forensic experts have arrived at the site for a detailed investigation," said Assistant Commissioner of Police L B Zala.

Shrey Hospital is among the around 60 private hospitals designated as COVID-19 hospitals by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar, who reached the spot soon after the fire broke out, said an electric short circuit led to the blaze, which spread in the ICU ward within minutes.

Principal Health Secretary Jayanti Ravi also reached the spot and assured a thorough probe into the incident.
