Ahmedabad: With the spike in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Ahmedabad Medical Association, in order to control the pandemic, has written to the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries urging it to convert all big marriage halls, conference halls and exhibition halls into COVID care centres just as the government has set up a 900-bed hospital with Oxygen and other facilities in GMDC hall.
In the same letter, it has suggested closing down of industries in the state for two weeks and run important industrial units with 50 per cent staff. It also wants all the employees of private business and industrial enterprises to be vaccinated.
In response, the GCCI has assured that all the employees will be vaccinated.

Diamond king Savji Dholakia too had demanded the imposition of lockdown a month ago. He had pointed out that many associated with the diamond industry of Surat had been infected with the COVID-19 virus. Diamond polishing workers had become super-spreaders. In such a situation, lockdown was the only solution, according to Savji.
