Family's stellar fight to save critically ill Covid-19 patient pays off

The Corona epidemic is currently raging the world over and cases are rising. Among such crises, there are cases that give hope. A patient has recovered after a complicated and intensive 120-day-long treatment. He was tested positive for corona and then also got contagious infections in the other organs but was successfully treated at an Ahmedabad hospital.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Gujarat and the state government is working hard to contain them. Meanwhile, Kishorsinh Jadeja, 67, a patient from Kutch district also got the infection, but he was slightly careless in the beginning. The virus started affecting other organs of the body. Due to this, the health of the patient Kishorsinh started deteriorating. His son living in Ahmedabad was informed about the worsening condition.

Doctors of Kutch suggested taking him to Ahmedabad

As soon as the Ahmedabad-based son was informed, he and his wife rushed to Kutch. They immediately brought him to Ahmedabad and admitted him to a hospital for treatment. The patient did not have any disease when he got the infection, but now he was in poor condition.

After treatment, he was negative for the Coronavirus, but he was diagnosed with fibrosis. The patient was shifted to a private hospital under treatment with a panel of senior doctors. The patient was then found to have infections in other organs of the body besides the lungs, such as the brain and kidneys. The lungs were also punctured, causing the body to swell and the muscles to weaken. Fibrosis also prevented the lungs from being able to fully function and to breathe, so he was put on the ventilator.

A room in the home converted to ICU after discharge from hospital

As there were infections in many parts of the body, Kishorsinh had to be put on a ventilator. Now there was a situation where he needed to be on a ventilator for a long time. The patient also had convulsions/stress during treatment. He was also treated by a brain specialist. Gradually his health improved.

After discussion with the doctors, it was decided to shift the patient to home and create a makeshift ICU. It was also necessary to keep the patient safe from any other infection. A total of 60 days of treatment was given to him at home. All arrangements, including a ventilator, were made available at home. The family converted a room in the house into an ICU, it was like a mini-hospital at home. The whole arrangement was made at home as per guidance by the senior doctors.

A team of ICU specialist doctors, medical officers and nursing staff from a private hospital took care of the patient remotely via video calls. All types of antibiotic drugs, which are used in injections, were given. Gradually a positive improvement in the patient's health was observed. However, Kishorsinh suddenly needed oxygen and was shifted to the hospital once again. The senior doctors decided to do some surgery.

Whatever happens, we will save him: Daughter-in-law

A daughter is very important in the life of a father. But here the daughter-in-law assumed the role of a daughter. The daughter-in-law decided that no matter what happens, the father will be saved. The daughter-in-law stayed with her father-in-law throughout and gave courage to the whole family in such difficult situations.

120 days treatment of lungs, brain, kidneys

Covid-19 was found to have an effect on many organs. He had to be shifted to Ahmedabad for treatment and had to remain in the hospital for 120 days. About 60 days of treatment were taken at home. At present, he is completely healthy.

At such times anybody would be stressed, but a positive attitude was observed in Kishorsinh. He had confidence in the doctors and co-operated in the treatment. It shows that overcoming any complex illness is possible with the trust and patience of the patient and his family.

The family has come out of a difficult situation. Kishorsinh Jadeja's son Jayarajsinh and daughter-in-law Priyanka have given a message to the general public by talking to ETV Bharat. They say that we should not take Corona infection lightly. It is very important to wear a mask, wash your hands, feet and mouth as soon as you enter the house.

The family was financially sound, so it could spend a cost of Rs 15 lakh for the treatment. However, everybody cannot afford it and so even a small negligence can lead to major problem. In this difficult situation, it is very important to be careful.
