Ahmedabad: Just a day after India observed 'World Day against Child Labour', children were seen working on a road construction site in Gujarat's Aravalli district on Thursday.
A road is currently being laid between Sayara and Vaniyad in the district. It was seen that several young children were working in the dangerous conditions.
Upon realising that they were being filmed, the children instantaneously fled from the construction site.
Even though India has vowed to eradicate the social evil of child labour, instances like these advocate the fact that the ground reality is far different than what is being promised by the government.
In a recent report, the International Labour Organisation stated that of the total 152 million children involved in child labour worldwide, 10.1 million are from India alone.
