Wrestlers' ultimatum ends today; Brij Bhushan cautions against 'telling lies'

Today is the last day for the 15-day ultimatum given by the proteting wrestlers who threatened to take their agitation to the world's Olympic champions if no action is taken against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh. On his part, Brij Bhushan is visiting Gonda district in UP where he took a dig at the wrestlers and urged for changing laws relating to sexual exploitation.

Wrestlers' protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan over sexual harassment charges

Delhi/Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) : BJP MP and President of Wrestling Federation of India Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has reached Gonda. During this visit, he participated in various programs. He again launched a scathing attack on the star wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, who have been protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar since April 23 demanding action against Brij Bhushan over sexual harassment charges.

Incidentally, today is the last day for the ultimatum given by the top wrestlers to the Centre to take action against Brij Bhushan. They threatened to take their agitation to the world's Olympic athletes if their demands were not met by May 21.

On his part, Brij Bhushan continued to criticise the wrestlers, saying that if someone was bent on telling a lie, it could ruin someone else's life. The MP called for a march to Ayodhya on 5th June. He further said that alarming reports have emerged that over 200 youths are committing suicides every hour due to allegations of sexual abuse.

Citing this, Brij Bhushan even stressed the need for changing the existing laws dealing with sexual exploitation. He took a dig at the wrestlers who were protesting, and he sought support from the people regarding the awareness rally to be held in Ayodhya. He said that on June 5, there will be saints from all over the country at Ram Katha Park in Ayodhya.

The BJP MP said that at least 11 lakh people will gather there on the call of the saints and saints will speak on that day while the whole country will listen. Whatever the saints will speak, they will speak only for you, for your welfare and for your future, he said and added that the voice of normal people can be suppressed but not that of the saints of the country.

Referring to his retirement from politics, Brij Bhushan Sharan said, 'I wanted to retire from politics in 2014 itself. During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, I met Amit Shah in Bahraich and told him this, but he did not allow me to retire. He said that you contest the elections.'
