Youth dies by suicide after shooting 42-year-old woman dead in Delhi's Dabri: police

A man identified as Ashish died by suicide after killing a 42-year-old woman in Delhi's Dabri. Further investigation is on, police said.

New Delhi: A youth died by suicide after shooting a 42-year-old woman dead near her house in southwest Delhi's Dabri area on Thursday evening, police said. The victim has been identified as Renu while the accused as Ashish. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harshvardhan said that they received information at around 8:45 pm on Wednesday that a 42-year-old woman was shot dead near her house. Accordingly, a special team of police was rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, the DCP said.

He said that the visiting police team found that the woman had been shot dead while the assailant had fled from the spot. In the subsequent police raids at the house of the assailant, he had shot himself dead when the police reached his house to arrest him, the DCP said. "We formed several teams to nab the accused. We identified him and when we reached his house, he shot himself dead on the roof of his house. We found the weapon with which he had killed himself," DCP Harshvardhan said.

Police said that the slain woman was a housewife living with her family in the Vaishali colony area under Dabri Police Station. In the preliminary investigation of the case so far, police have found that Renu and Ashish met in a gym nearly 2-3 years back. Further investigation is on, the DCP added. More details are awaited. Pertinently, in June this year, a 35-year-old woman was shot dead outside her home in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut. According to police, the woman had been estranged from her husband for the past few years.
