Will leave no stone unturned to nab culprits: Javadekar on pregnant elephant killing in Kerala

Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has responded to the killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala's Palakkad. He said in a video that this kind of killings are totally unacceptable and senior officers have already been deputed there and they will leave no stoned unturned to nab the culprits. The incident has angered the entire country with political leaders and eminent personalities condemning it.

New Delhi: As the killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala's Palakkad has seen an outrage across the country, the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar assured that the Central Government will leave "no stone unturned" to punish the culprits.

"Killing of an elephant in Kerala is shocking. It was a very cruel incident. This is not our Indian culture. Therefore we have taken it very seriously. But this kind of killings are totally unacceptable and we've already deputed our senior officers there. We'll nab the culprits and punish them," said the Minister in a video.

He also informed that the Ministry has also taken up Fodder and water augmentation in forest areas for solving the issue of human-animal conflict in the area.

The incident took place on May 27th, when the pregnant elephant died standing in river Velliyar, after it consumed a pineapple laden with firecrackers which suffered an injury in her lower jaw.

Earlier today, Javadekar tweeted about the matter, saying, "Central Government has taken a very serious note of the killing of an elephant in Mallapuram, Kerala. We will not leave any stone unturned to investigate properly and nab the culprits. This is not an Indian culture to feed firecrackers and kill."

The incident has angered the entire country with political leaders and eminent personalities condemning it.

BJP leader and animal right activist Maneka Gandhi tweeted, "Mallapuram is known for its intense criminal activity especially with regards to animals. No action has ever been taken against a single poacher or wildlife killer so they keep doing it. I can only suggest that you call or email and ask for action."
