New Delhi:Days after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Iran the biggest sponsor of terror during his joint press conference with EAM (External Affairs Minister) Dr. Jaishankar in the national capital, Iranian Ambassador to India Dr Ali Chegeni rejected it by challenging Secretary Pompeo to show one evidence where Iran or Iranians were found involved in any act of terror.
He claimed that Iran has documents and evidence which proves that the US has been supporting terrorism.
Dr Chegeni further added saying 'Iranians because of their philosophy and religion don't participate in any terrorist act. US definition of terrorism is totally different. They will talk about Hezbollah who freed their land from Israeli occupation.'
The Iranian Ambassador accused the United States of creating terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He even accused them of supporting injustice in the context of Palestine and Syria.
On India's decision to cut oil imports from Iran completely under US pressure, Dr Chegeni said, "India a great friend and we are hopeful that Indian government will do things based on national interest."
Recalling the history of India and Iran relationship which goes back to thousands of years, the Iranian Ambassador said, 'we are proud that we supported India in their freedom struggle. We have many common national interests and we have confidence in the Indian government.'
