SC upheld your right to protest, but others have rights too: Mediator

Mediators Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran began addressing protesters at Shaheen Bagh.

Earlier, Hegde explained the Supreme Court order to the protesters. This was translated into Hindi by Ramachandran.

Ramachandran told the protesters that the apex court had upheld their right to protest, and the interlocutors would listen to everyone.

"Supreme Court has said that you have the right to protest. The law (CAA) has been challenged in the Supreme Court. But like us, others too have their rights, like right to use roads and open their shops," she said.

"We want to together find a solution to the problem. We will listen to everyone," she said in Hindi.

SC-appointed mediators reach Shaheen Bagh to hold talks with protesters

New Delhi: Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran, the Supreme Court-appointed mediators, reached Shaheen Bagh on Wdenesday to hold talks with the protesters.

Speaking to reporters, Hegde said, "We have come here according to the order of Supreme Court. We hope to speak to everyone. We hope to resolve the matter with everybody's cooperation."

Earlier on February 17, the top court had appointed three interlocutors led by senior advocate Sanjay Hegde to talk to the Shaheen Bagh protestors regarding change in the protest site, and file report in court.

The other two interlocutors on the matter are advocate Sadhna Ramachandran and former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah.

Protesters at Shaheen Bagh on February 16 welcomed the intervention of the Supreme Court in the ongoing protests and said that they are ready to talk to the interlocutors to discuss with them their concerns on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Population Register (NPR) and the proposed National Register of Citizen (NRC).

However, protesters said they were not ready to vacate the site of the protest
