RTI activist beaten to death by rivals in North Delhi

Ramesh Maan was sitting in front of his house when some people in a car stopped outside his house and started attacking him with iron rods and batons, leaving him badly injured. He was immediately taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

New Delhi: An RTI activist was allegedly beaten to death by some unknown assailants in North Delhi's Hameedpur village on Friday whom he had been battling in the Delhi High Court over construction on agricultural land.

The victim, Ramesh Maan, was sitting in front of his house when some people in a car stopped outside his house and started attacking him with iron rods and batons, leaving him badly injured. Later, the miscreants managed to escape.

Ramesh was immediately taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Reportedly, Maan had a rivalry with another landowner from the same village. The two had complained against the illegal grabbing of agricultural land in the Delhi High Court. Both Maan and the accused had cases of extortion and robbery against them.

Maan's family members have alleged that he was pressurised a number of times to withdraw the complaint but he refused.

As per the police, the accused have been identified and a search is on to nab them. A case of murder has also been registered against them.
