RPF launches drive to curb illicit packaged drinking water menace

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a pan-India drive named 'Operation Thirst' to curb the menace of unauthorised packaged drinking water at railway stations. A total of 69,294 bottles of packaged drinking water were seized and a total fine amount of ₹6,80,855 has been slapped on the offenders, said police.

New Delhi: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a pan-India drive named 'Operation Thirst' to curb the menace of unauthorised packaged drinking water at railway stations.

Under the operation, 1,371 people were arrested for selling packaged drinking water of unauthorised brands, said police.

A total of 69,294 bottles of packaged drinking water were seized and a total fine amount of ₹6,80,855 has been slapped on the offenders, said police.

New Delhi: To curb the menace of unauthorised packed drinking water in Railway Premises, Railway Protection Force launched an all India drive named, "Operation Thirst", under which 1371 people were arrested for selling of packed drinking water of unauthorised brands.


Body:During this drive, all the Zonal Principal Chief Security Commissioners were asked to crackdown these unauthorised activities. A total of 69,294 bottles of packed drinking water were seized and a total fine amount of Rs 6,80,855 have been released from the offenders.

According to the official statement, 4 pantry cars managers were involved in selling of these packed drinking water, who got arrested in this drive. Stalls on platforms were also found selling packed drinking water bottles of brands which are not authorised by Railways.


Conclusion:Determined to go to the root of the corruption, the special drive will be followed by continuous action by Principal Chief Security Commissioners and further enquiry will be done.
