9 officials helped conman Suresh from inside Tihar Jail, reveals probe

Tihar Jail authorities investigating conman Suresh Chandrashekhar's case have revealed that Chandrashekhar was helped by the jail officials inside the Rohini jail who helped him to dupe a businessman's wife of Rs 200 crore. Jail Deputy Superintendent Subhash Batra and Assistant Jail Superintendent Dharam Singh Meena have written a letter to the Delhi government to take action against 9 jail officials for negligence.

New Delhi: Tihar Jail authorities investigating conman Suresh Chandrashekhar's case have revealed that jail officials inside the Rohini jail helped him to dupe a businessman's wife of Rs200 crore. Chandrasekhar had allegedly extorted Rs200 Crores from a businessman's wife by carrying out an extortion racket from inside the Rohini jail. The investigation also revealed that the officials would get a hefty amount as for helping the conman.

During interrogation, it was also revealed that the jail authorities used to provide him facilities, including mobile, with the help of which he would carry out his frauds. Jail Deputy Superintendent Subhash Batra and Assistant Jail Superintendent Dharam Singh Meena have written a letter to the Delhi government to take action against 9 jail officials for negligence.

Chandrasekhar was arrested in 2017 in a case of forgery and logged in Delhi's Rohini jail. Chandrasekhar, along with two of his associates who worked for him from outside the prison, had extorted the amount from a businessman's wife (Aditi Singh) on the pretext of freeing her husband Shivendra Singh.

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police had arrested Singh, a former promoter of Ranbaxy, Fortis and Religare Enterprises, along with his brother Malvinder Mohan Singh in October 2019, for alleged financial irregularities. According to sources, Shivendra's wife Aditi Singh had received several calls in the last few months from a man posing as an officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Enforcement Directorate. He told Aditi Singh that he would get her husband released and took Rs200 Cr from her.

Aditi on having suspected foul-play informed the entire matter to an officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED officer apprised Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana who launched an investigation.

During the course of the investigation, the police traced the call to the high profile criminal Sukesh Chandrashekhar and recovered two smartphones from him.
